Frequently Asked Questions

What is bitcoin?

Bitcoin is a fully automated decentralized currency. This amazing technology allows you to send money without a bank. Here's a video covering the basics:

Why is backpage now dealing with only bitcoin now?

Bitcoin is a very attractive commodity. In respective countries, bitcoin is treated and taxed as a commodity much like gold and/or property. But, because of its anonymous and discreet nature, it's very hard to track. No government entity can claim or regulate bitcoin either, making it very challenging to seize. I think whoever owns backpage enjoys these features for whatever reason and is willing to take a hit in profits to obtain them.

What is Paxful?

Backpage recommends this service but it's unclear why. Maybe they have a cozy deal going on. Paxful is much like eBay for bitcoins. You obtain bitcoins from sellers and hope for the best. I've had multiple people within a very short time complain having fallen victim to scams on there. Do so at your own risk.

I got scammed, what can I do?

I'm just a guy trying to provide information and a service. I'm not here to help you out with other websites or recover lost money. I advise meeting up and having the whole process carried out in front of your eyes. Think of me as a bitcoin broker. Once we gain trust I can operate within other means at our own discretion.

Where should I get my bitcoins?

The absolute best scenario would be accepting bitcoin as a form of payment whenever you can. You then get to dictate how many bitcoins your services are worth. Simply advertise that you can accept bitcoin as form of payment. The other alternative is that I smooth out the process and sell you the bitcoins that I own. Bear in mind that backpage deals in USD so you are losing in both conversion to BTC AND the conversion to USD. Most sellers up the exchange rate a little to buffer the very volatile exchange rate. You're going to pay a premium in most exchanges, but my method beats you having to give your information to a stranger on Paxful.

Why are you doing this?

I'm a programmer locally in Moncton and fervent bitcoin enthusiast. I want to forge trusting relationships and hopefully deal more in bitcoin in the future. I'm simply seeing a need and wanting to provide my services and expertise and maybe make myself some small bitcoin pocket change.
