1. Click buy credits at the bottom of the website when logged in your account.
-
2. Next step will take you to a screen shown below
Here you need to enter the amount of money you'd like to insert in your account. I recommend a small amount for your first time in case you make a mistake, bitcoin payments are
permanent . Here's a reminder, also, that money here is in USD and not your shitty CAD so after crying a little over the conversion rate try to ballpark an amount that you have in your bitcoin account. Not to mention that backpage decides its own rate of conversion to/from BTC too so it's not unusual to be a little disappointed here. Select Bitcoin and "Generate Invoice" to then send proceed to sending bitcoins to your account. 3. Making an invoice.
You see that long string of nonsense? That's a temporary Bitcoin address to which you need to send your bitcoins to fund your account. Here are several warnings before you proceed:
- Make sure you send the EXACT amount of BTC requested. From my experience some payments may fall through if they do not match.
- If you send a wrong transaction to this address MAKE ANOTHER INVOICE. It's also been my experience that sending that wrong payment may invalidate the invoice.
- There could be an expiry. I'm not quite sure how long or if it affects bitcoins that are already in transit but I wouldn't take any chances.
This is where you load up your Bitcoin wallet. There is a wide selection available and really what it boils down to is your preference. Copy paste the invoice address the invoice gave you and send the exact amount of bitcoins requested.
4. Sending the bitcoins will differ from app to app and will hopefully be straight forward.
Here's what my app looks like:The important part here is that I'm sending in mBTC which is about 0.001BTC each, exactly what my address was asking for. 5. Now, you play the waiting game
and hope for the best because backpage's customer service is practically non-existent. If it worked you should receive a confirmation email much like the one below:If you didn't receive it within 30 minutes well then you're fucked. Have a great day :)

Frequently Asked Questions
What is bitcoin?
Bitcoin is a fully automated decentralized currency. This amazing technology allows you to send money without a bank. Here's a video covering the basics:
Why is backpage now dealing with only bitcoin now?
Bitcoin is a very attractive commodity. In respective countries, bitcoin is treated and taxed as a commodity much like gold and/or property. But, because of its anonymous and discreet nature, it's very hard to track. No government entity can claim or regulate bitcoin either, making it very challenging to seize. I think whoever owns backpage enjoys these features for whatever reason and is willing to take a hit in profits to obtain them.
What is Paxful?
Backpage recommends this service but it's unclear why. Maybe they have a cozy deal going on. Paxful is much like eBay for bitcoins. You obtain bitcoins from sellers and hope for the best. I've had multiple people within a very short time complain having fallen victim to scams on there. Do so at your own risk.
I got scammed, what can I do?
I'm just a guy trying to provide information and a service. I'm not here to help you out with other websites or recover lost money. I advise meeting up and having the whole process carried out in front of your eyes. Think of me as a bitcoin broker. Once we gain trust I can operate within other means at our own discretion.
Where should I get my bitcoins?
The absolute best scenario would be accepting bitcoin as a form of payment whenever you can. You then get to dictate how many bitcoins your services are worth. Simply advertise that you can accept bitcoin as form of payment. The other alternative is that I smooth out the process and sell you the bitcoins that I own. Bear in mind that backpage deals in USD so you are losing in both conversion to BTC AND the conversion to USD. Most sellers up the exchange rate a little to buffer the very volatile exchange rate. You're going to pay a premium in most exchanges, but my method beats you having to give your information to a stranger on Paxful.
Why are you doing this?
I'm a programmer locally in Moncton and fervent bitcoin enthusiast. I want to forge trusting relationships and hopefully deal more in bitcoin in the future. I'm simply seeing a need and wanting to provide my services and expertise and maybe make myself some small bitcoin pocket change.
